Professor Günther Schmid
has been rewarded one of three Honorable doctorates 2006 at Växjö
University, Sweden. The ceremony at the university will take place
on February 11, 2006.

From 1 September 2005 to 31 January 2006, Professor Günther Schmid
followed an
invitation from the Netherlands Institute for Advanced
Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences in Wassenaar.

IIn February and March 2005,
he
was invited by the University of Melbourne, Australia, to
present recent labour market-related research results to Australian
researchers, students and experts at several institutions and
occasions. On March 23, 2005, he presented his paper on
Social Risk Management through Transitional Labour Markets at
the "Transitions&Risks: New Directions in Social
Policy" conference in Melbourne.

Polish Lisbon Strategy Forum The
Second Congress of the Polish Lisbon Strategy Forum "Poland and
Europe in the Face of the Future Challenges" was organized in Warsaw
on May 26, 2004. The opening speeches were held by the President of
the Republic of Polen, Aleksaner Kwasniewski, and the German
Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. During the discussion forum on
"Social partners for employment and entrepreneurship development -
the European perspective", Professor Dr. Günther Schmid gave
a lecture on "Ways and means to achieve the Lisbon employment

European Employment Task Force
In 2003, Günther Schmid was a member of the
¬European Employment Task Force set up by the European
Commission, headed by the former Dutch Prime Minister Wim Kok.
Initiated by the European Council, the European Employment Task
Force, chaired by Wim Kok, was set up in spring 2003 by the
European Commission. lts task was to carry out an independent
in-depth examination of key employment-related policy challenges
and to identify practical reform measures, which should as far
as possible produce immediate employment impacts. The Report of
the Task Force was presented on November 23, 2003.

presented by Professor Dr. Günther Schmid during a Lunch Time
Meeting on German labour market policy organized by the European
Commission Representation in Germany and the German Institute for
Economic Research on February 4, 2004, in Berlin. Information

¬ European Commission Representation in Berlin The Federal Ministry of
Economics and Labour and the Nuremberg Institute for Employment
Research organized a conference on "Impulses for European Employment
Policy – Impulses for Germany. Report of the European Employment
Task Force", held on December 8, 2003, in Berlin. The presentation
of the core results of the Task Force Report by Wim Kok was followed
by a round-table discussion with a group of high-ranking politicians
and experts - Anna Diamantopoulou (Commissioner for Employment
and Social Affairs), Wim Kok (President of the European Employment
Task Force), Dr. Dieter Hundt (President of the German Employers’
Association BDA), Michael Sommer (Chairman of the German Trade
Unions’ Association DGB), Professor Dr. Günther Schmid
(Member of the European Employment Task Force) and Wolfgang Clement
(Federal Minister of Economics and Labour).
During the following "Technical Meeting on the Task Force Report",
working groups discussed the four main topics of the report (adaptability,
labour supply, investment in human capital, better governance). Information
