A New Education Model for Europe
Two cities are models for European education reform: Bologna for higher education and Copenhagen for vocational training. The effects of both reform processes are subject of heated public debate. But what are the shared fundamentals and ideas behind the reforms? Research scholars of the project “Internationalization of Vocational and Higher Education Systems” analyzed European declarations and communiqués from 1998 through 2010 to identify the new principles of European (continuing) education.
In the academic journal Sociology of Education, the authors describe how European education models compare to German, French, British and American models. What is innovative is that the parallel European education reforms in higher and vocational education are considered together. The result shown is how both form a new European education model.
