Growing poverty: People with little income are more likely to fall even further

The risk of impoverishment in Germany is increasing, but not for all classes. People who already have a low income in particular become impoverished more so than in the past. In the lower income classes the rate of poverty rose from 10 to 15 percent, whereas the middle and upper classes during the period examined from 1984 to 2007 did not increase. Martin Ehlert and Jan Paul Heisig show this in an analysis for the WZB’s quarterly magazine.
