Excellent grades for the WZB

Evaluation report assesses research as “very good to excellent”

The Leibniz Association Senate issued the WZB a very good certification assessment. The external reviewers ackowledge the WZB´s “extraordinary strength of performance”. The independent experts view most of the WZB research units as “very good to excellent,” as stated in the evaluation report published today. The WZB fulfills the standards asked of an institution of national importance. The Leibniz Association recommends to continue funding by the federal governemnt and the Land of Berlin.

Recognized were “remarkable” performance in research-based and policy-relevant consultancy and knowledge transfer, the intensive participation in public debate as well as the development of a data collection that is available to social scientific research as a whole. The committee described the training and career support given to young scholars as “very convincing.”

The last WZB evaluation was in 2004. The evaluation report states that the development process has been “driven forward noticeably.” The opportunity offered to sociologists, political scientists, economists, legal scholars and historians is used in a convincing way. In the reviewers’ opinion, that almost 70 percent of journal publications by WZB researchers are published today in English and other foreign languages speaks for the international recognition and influence of WZB research.
