Berlin’s academic research institutions in economics cooperate more and more closely.

The following seven institutions together form the Berlin Economics Research Associate Program (BERA) to promote post-doctoral research:

  • the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin),
  • the School of Business and Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU),
  • the School of Business and Economics at Freie Universität Berlin (FU),
  • the School of Economics and Management at Technische Universität Berlin (TU),
  • the ESMT European School of Management and Technology Berlin (ESMT)
  • the Hertie School of Governance and
  • the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.

The WZB is a publicly funded research institution within the Leibniz association.

The academic research conducted at the WZB in the social sciences is theory-based and problem-oriented. The WZB Research Area 'Markets & Choice' offers

a position for a postdoctoral research associate

in the summer/fall of 2018

to join the group of behavioral economists at the WZB Berlin Social Science Centerfor a fixed-term appointment of up to a maximum of 6 years, according to German WissZeitVG.

Being a member of the group at the WZB implies freedom from teaching obligations, strong administrative support for projects, grant proposals and workshop organization, access to the WZB-TU economics lab as well as many opportunities to interact with academic peers. Current research topics of the group include bounded rationality, social preferences, market design, matching theory, status concerns, corruption, and privacy.  

Excellent researchers with a strong background in behavioral economics or market design and interest in the development of their own projects within the research framework of the group are encouraged to apply to the WZB position.

Requirements: Applicants should hold a PhD in economics or a neighboring discipline at starting date of the position, and should have excellent qualifications as well as outstanding own research.

Salary: E14 on the Wage Agreement for Public Service (TVöD) scale for a full time contract (39 h/ week). Part-time work as well as split employment contracts with two of the seven BERA institutions are possible.

Equally well qualified disabled persons will be given priority.
