Several Research Associate Positions


Berlin’s academic research institutions in economics cooperate more and more closely. The following institutions together form the Berlin School of Economics (BSE) to promote the careers of junior researchers: the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), the School of Business and Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU), the School of Business and Economics at Freie Universität Berlin (FU), the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, the School of Economics and Management at Technische Universität Berlin (TU), the ESMT European School of Management and Technology Berlin (ESMT), the Hertie School of Governance and the University of Potsdam. 

The BSE Research Associate Program is a joint effort to seek to fill

                     Several Research Associate Positions

for fixed-term appointments of up to a maximum of 6 years.

The positions will be hosted and administered by one of the BSE Research Associate Program institutions. The contracts are according to German WissZeitVG and vary within the salary scale E 13 TV-L (for the universities HU/TU/FU and Potsdam) or E 14 TVöD for the research institutions.

Part-time work as well as a parallel part-time employment at two of the BSE Research Associate Program institutions are possible.

Please note that the positions are comparable to assistant professorships.

Duties: Successful candidates will contribute part of their time to research and teaching in economics at the Bachelor, Master or PhD levels, as well as to furthering their own research agenda. At DIW Berlin and WZB, there are no teaching duties.

Requirements: Applicants should hold a PhD in economics or a neighboring discipline at the position starting date, and should have excellent qualifications as well as outstanding own research.

Excellent researchers from all fields of economics are invited to apply.

  • their motivations for joining at least one of the institutions,
  • a detailed curriculum vitae,
  • copies of degree certificates and
  • teaching evaluations if available.
  • Applicants are required to organize the separate submission of two academic letters of recommendation by their referees.

Position at the WZB - Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung

The WZB Research Area 'Markets & Choice' offers a position for a postdoctoral research associate in the summer/fall of 2020 to join the group of behavioral economists at the Berlin Social Science Center.

Strong researchers with a background in behavioral economics or market design are encouraged to apply.

The WZB is a publicly funded research institution within the Leibniz association. The academic research conducted at the WZB in the social sciences is theory-based and problem-oriented.

The position at the WZB implies freedom from teaching obligations, strong administrative support for projects, grant proposals and workshop organization, access to the WZB-TU economics lab as well as many opportunities to interact with academic peers.

Current research topics of the group include bounded rationality, social preferences, market design, matching theory, status concerns, corruption, and motivated beliefs.
