Cooperation and international networking

Cooperation with graduate schools and programs

The WZB cooperates with graduate schools in many ways and, together with the Freie Universität and the Hertie School of Governance, founded the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (BTS). A number of doctoral candidates from the BTS, the Graduate School of Social Sciences (BGSS) and the Berlin Doctoral Program in Economics & Management Science (BDPEMS) work at the WZB in corresponding research units. In summer 2011, doctoral candidates at the WZB, the BGSS and the BTS are planning a joint international summer school.

International network (residencies abroad)

The WZB supports international networking of doctoral and postdoctoral candidates and enables trips to conferences and research visits. Funding primarily comes from the budgets of each research unit. If a trip cannot be financed through the research unit, there is a possibility to apply for so-called flexible funds for career advancement, to cover travel expenses.

The WZB sends up to two postdoctoral candidates to the  Minda Ginzburg Center for European Studies (CES)  at Harvard University every year. In depth exchange, that also includes research stays by doctoral candidates at respective partner institutions, is also in place with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the Universities in Stockholm, Lund, and Sydney.
