Web of Science (WoS) is an extensive, multidisciplinary, bibliographical database with references to contributions in journals, books, proceedings, and other sources in the social sciences, the arts and humanities, natural science, and engineering. The WZB has licensed the following ancillary data banks: - Social Sciences Citation Index (includes approximately 4,500 social science and economics journals from 55 disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, and anthropology as of 1972) - Arts & Humanities Citation Index (with references to approximately 2,300 journals in the arts and humanities as of 1975) - Book Citation Index (with books published as of 2005) - Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science (CPCI-S, conferences as of 1990) - Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Social Science & Humanities (CPCI-SSH, conferences as of 1990) - Current Contents Connect (as of 1998) - Data Citation Index (research data, as of 1900) - Derwent Innovations Index (edited patents, as of 1963) - Zoological Records (technical database, as of 1964) - Biosis Citation Index (technical database, as of 1928) - Index Chemicus (with search function for chemical structures, as of 1993) - Current Chemical Reactions (technical database, 1985) Another special feature of the WoS is that it lists each document's sources (cited references) and gives their citation frequency (times cited).
