Migration, Citizenship, and Democracy: Contemporary Ethical Challenges

This three-year series of workshops seeks to rethink the concepts of democracy and citizenship, the changes to the empirical and normative landscape brought about by global migration, and the ethical dilemmas that these changes entail.

The research group is co-organized by four institutions:
- Harvard University, Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics;
- New School, Zolberg Institute for Migration and Mobility;
- Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity;
- Freie Universit├Ąt Berlin, Kolleg-Forschergruppe "The Transformative Power of Europe".

The first workshop addressed the following themes: 1) Global Migration and Justice; 2) Immigrant Integration and Education; 3) Global Migration Governance; and 4) Membership and Belonging in Transition. It was opened by Professor Stefan Gosepath’s Keynote Address on the Moral and Political Duties to Aid Refugees.

The second workshop will be hosted at Harvard University in March 2018.
