Lisa Basten is doing her doctorate in economics at Freie Universität (FU) Berlin on "Project Work in Germany. Creative future or highly qualified precariat". She studied comparative literature and sociology at the LMU in Munich and media studies at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen "Konrad Wolf". Since then, her research has focused on changes in the world of work, opportunities for collective organization, and co-determination processes of the future.
Her 2016 book "Wir Kreative! Das Selbstverständnis einer Branche" focuses on the film and television industry. Lisa Basten frequently takes a public stand on political issues affecting her research: at events in creative industries, as part of her commitment to Ver.di and as an expert in the Bundestag on the social situation of creative people. She has been a member of the "Labour and Social Affairs" expert committee of the German Cultural Council since 2019.
As a research associate at the WZB, she also carries out projects aimed at transferring scientific findings into practice. This includes the exchange with practitioners in discussion groups, advising members of the Bundestag and the Landtag as well as the production of explanatory films and graphics on various topics relating to "work of the future".
