Prof. Will Kymlicka

Will Kymlicka is a Senior Visiting Researcher at the research area “Migration and Diversity”. During his stay, he is conducting research on the link between membership and solidarity within contemporary nation-states. Liberal nationalists often argue that solidarity depends on a sense of a shared membership, and that membership in turn is defined in national terms. Kymlicka is exploring whether there is a multiculturalist version of, or alternative to, this liberal nationalist story, one which accepts that solidarity often depends on shared membership, but which rethinks the nature and meaning of "membership".
