Aim of the study

The everyday life of a lot of people has changed fundamentally due to the corona virus. In our online survey concerning everyday life during COVID-19 we investigate the effects of the measures taken to contain the pandemic on the work and family life of people in Germany: 

How does the shutdown of production, the closure of buisnesses, day-care centres and schools affect people of different ages, gender and origin? How are families doing? How does the work situation and income change? What are people most worried about, and how do these worries vary between population groups?

Methodological approach and sample

The data set encompasses three waves of an open online panel on everyday experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic (March to August 2020) in Germany. How does the lockdown of businesses, schools, and public life in general affect people of different ages, gender, and origin? How do families cope with the situation? What do people worry about? How do these worries vary between population groups? A total of 14,754 respondents volunteered to participate in survey wave 1 (March 23 to May 10, 2020); in wave 2 there were 7,574 respondents (April 20 to June 14, 2020) and in wave 3 there were still 6,397 respondents.

Data access and transparency 

Results and research papers can be found below, guest articles under short articles.  In the spirit of good scientific practice, we provide the collected data in anonymized form as well as all syntax files used for data preparation and analysis.
