10/2012 - 03/2019

Educational trajectories are complex and influenced by many factors, including origin, school system, or economic conditions. Finding out more about educational processes requires transdisciplinary cooperation. This is precisely what the College on Interdisciplinary Educational Research - CIDER, a new innovative program, is about.

It is designed for post-docs from sociology, economics, psychology, and educational science who are engaged in empirical educational research and eager to cross the boundaries of their own discipline. The fellows in this program are supported by experienced senior researchers while realizing their projects. Furthermore, the College hosts workshops on a regular basis to provide opportunities for exchanging ideas. The main research questions of the College are:

  • Educational inequality and success against the odds
  • Competence development as an educational and social process
  • (Monetary and non-monetary) returns to education

The College will be financed by the Jacobs Foundation and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Six Leibniz Institutes co-operate alongside the WZB: the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), the German Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF), GESIS – Leibniz-Institut for the Social Sciences, IPN – Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education, the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LifBI) and the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW).
