The Summer School "Good Work in Academia: Perspectives from Academics, Politics and Society" will take place from May 28 to June 1, 2018 at the WZB in Berlin/Germany.

The Call for Applications is available here.

The subject will be studied from three perspectives:

The Process of Good Academic Work

What are the standards for good academic work: Does it have to be interdisciplinary, using multiple methods, publishable in refereed academic journals? What is "good" academic work from an ethical point of view?

The Conditions of Good Academic Work

Which concepts and ideas of "good work" in academia repeatedly appear in the discussion of higher education and science policy? How can "good work" be designed regarding career development/planning/support?

The Impact of Good Academic Work

Which effect does (social-) scientific research have in and for the public sphere? What do practitioners understand as "good" academic work? Which forms of dialogue between academics and practitioners is possible?

There will be workshops, panel discussions and keynote speakers. This will give  PhD-students ample opportunity to discuss and exchange with scholars as well as political and societal stakeholders.
