Dr. Mariana Prandini Assis

Mariana Prandini Assis is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil, where she co-coordinates Sertão – Center for Teaching, Outreach, and Research on Gender and Sexuality. Her research is theoretically driven and lies at the intersection of law and politics, with a particular focus on feminist and other social movements, reproduction, human rights discourses and practices, informal governance, and alternative visions of public policy. She is also a member of the transnational research network Colectiva Protesta and a co-founder of Coletivo Margarida Alves, a legal empowerment organization based in Brazil.
Mariana holds a Ph.D. and an M.Phil. in Politics from The New School for Social Research (USA), and an LL.B. from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil). She was previously a postdoctoral fellow at Dalhousie University (Canada) and at the Centre for Global Cooperation Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany), and co-convened a Visiting Research Group at the ZiF – Center for Interdisciplinary Research at Bielefeld University (Germany).
At the WZB, Mariana is hosted by the research unit "Varieties of Reproduction Regimes" from August 2025 to July 2026, and in August and September 2025 she is also a guest of the department "Global Governance" . Her research stay is partly supported by the WZB Fellowship Program for Researchers from the Global South, funded by the Friends of the WZB."
