SCRIPTS - Cluster of Excellence “Contestations of the Liberal Script” - Towards a Typology of Contestations

The synthesis research project aims to survey and categorize contestations of the liberal script, which vary globally in both type and underlying purpose. To properly understand the contestations and their causes and consequences, a useful typology needs to be developed. The project aims at a categorization of the contestants based on their normativity, epistemology as well as the emotions, strategies and identities used in pursuing their goals.

In the first stage, the project identifies a broad set of different contestants of the liberal script. In the second stage, researchers analyse a sample of contestants and, based on the corresponding dataset, conceive clusters of contestants. Based on the dimensions underlying those clusters, the project will then develop a typology of contestations
