WZB supports Academics for Peace

In early January, the group Academics for Peace, made up of Turkish and international academics, started a campaign to oppose the armed conflict in the Kurdish region of southeastern Turkey and call on the Turkish government to return to the negotiating table. Since then, many members of the campaign, some of them former guests of the WZB, have experienced intimidation, dismissal and criminal prosecution. We at the WZB stand in solidarity with the Turkish scholars and support their right to freedom of expression.

The WZB has therefore co-signed the international petition undertaken by Scholars at Risk, in which the reprisals carried out by the Turkish government are condemned.
