EU Commission acknowledges the WZB’s HR Management

The WZB is the first German institution to be rewarded with the prestigious “HR Excellence in Research” logo by the European Commission. In doing so, the Commission has acknowledged the WZB’s sound human resources strategy for researchers and its commitment to making science an attractive career option.

The “European Charter for Researchers” and the “Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers” serve as a framework for this commitment. The aim of this European initiative is to develop an attractive and single European labor market for researchers. Since 2005 over 1200 institutions across Europe have endorsed the “Charter & Code” and thus expressed their explicit support. Approximately 10% of these institutions have also implemented the Commission’s recommendations: They have developed an action plan and received the logo.

Not least thanks to the strategic vision of its management, the WZB is now at the forefront of the implementation of “Charter & Code”. “We were well positioned right from the start”, explains Alice Hohn, Officer for International Affairs. “A lot of recommendations are already daily routines in our institute, especially when it comes to supporting international mobility or strategic career development.”
