The doctoral program is supported by the Hans Böckler Foundation. In 1977 the German Trade Union Confederation (Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund, DGB) established the Foundation. Today it supports research in 75 projects with subjects such as worker participation, structural policy, the public sector, the welfare state, the labor market, the economy, and collective bargaining. The Foundation especially supports doctoral programs. Currently, there are 13 of them.
