Nobel Prize for Daron Acemoglu
Almost exactly one year ago, economic researcher Daron Acemoglu received the A.SK Social Science Award 2023 at the WZB - and now he is honored together with Simon Johnson (MIT) and James A. Robinson (University of Chicago) with this year's Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. Congratulations to Daron Acemoglu and to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he researches and teaches.
Incidentally, Daron Acemoglu is the second researcher to be honored first with the A.SK Award for outstanding research in the social sciences and then with the Nobel Prize in Economics. Esther Duflo was also honored with the A.SK Prize in 2015 and received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2019.
In his award speech at the WZB, Daron Acemoglu tells, among other things, what originally motivated him to study economics: his childhood and youth in Turkey, where he was already preoccupied as a teenager with the great economic differences between different countries.
