Sexual dynamics in digital times
London social scientist Catherine Hakim has invented a new word: "playfairs" - meaning affairs that are purely about playtime. Social Media have made possible this new trend. What else do they change? What's the internet's influence on gender relations? Is there a new morality? In her lecture on Thursday, 26th of September, 4pm, Catherine Hakim will address these questions.
Her book "The New Rules: Internet Dating, Playfairs, and Erotic Power" is newly published by Gibson Square Books. Catherine Hakim has interviewed hundreds of men and women who use contact websites. She wanted to know why they chose to go down this road, how it affected their lives, and discovered that the balance of power shifts towards women in this area.
With her publications on social and family politics, on employment, and with her theory of erotic capital Dr. Catherine Hakim opened up public discussions. The Senior Research Fellow in the London School of Economics is currently a guest at the WZB.
