Winds of Change
“Where do we not observe transformations?” the editors ask in their introduction. Political, social, and economic change is, of course, a complex and omnipresent phenomenon. By bringing together contributions from a wide range of researchers, the newly published Handbook of Political, Social, and Economic Transformation, co-edited by WZB director Wolfgang Merkel, sheds a fresh, multidisciplinary light on transformation research. The Handbook introduces key theories, methods, and perspectives on transformations, focusing on historical and comparative dimensions. It draws on research by its three editors, Wolfgang Merkel, Raj Kollmorgen, and Hans-Jürgen Wagener, as well as on 79 contributions from researchers across the globe, many of whom are also based at the WZB.
The Handbook was first published in German as the Handbuch Transformationsforschung (Springer, 2015). The new and extended English version has been published by Oxford University Press (2019).
