WZB stands in solidarity with the Central European University
The WZB has issued the following statement by its President Professor Jutta Allmendinger on the pending legislation in the Hungarian Parliament which directly targets the existence of the Central European University:
“The WZB Berlin Social Science Center has long lasting and strong collaborative ties with the Central European University in Budapest, one of the leading academic institutions in Europe. We are deeply concerned by the legislation proposed by the current Hungarian government, which threatens the very existence of the CEU and endangers academic freedoms as such. The WZB stands in solidarity with the colleagues at the CEU as they work to ensure the future of their institution as well as basic principles of independent research.”
Today, 4. April, the Hungarian National Assembly has passed legislation regarding the operation of non-EU universities in Hungary.
