Kenneth (Andy) Andrews is Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In June and July 2014 he will be a guest in the research unit Inequality and Social Policy. He studies the influence of protest and social movements on pubic policy and institutional change. His book - Freedom is a Constant Struggle (2004) - examined the impact of the civil rights movement on electoral politics, school desegregation, and social policies. In two recent projects, he studied leadership, participation, and public influence of environmental organizations. Andrews is writing a book titled Civil Rights and the Black Freedom Struggle. Current projects examine the protest campaigns to desegregate public facilities, the diffusion of local prohibition laws, and the influence of environmental advocacy.
