Former Visiting Researcher of the Research Department

Dr. Mierke-Zatwarnicki is a guest researcher at the Center for Civil Society Research. She is currently a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence. Starting in September, she will join Stanford University's Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Mierke-Zatwarnicki received her Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University in 2023.

Her research focuses on party organization and group mobilization in Western Europe, analyzed from a macro-historical perspective. Through various papers and an ongoing book project, she studies how political parties mobilize new group identities into politics and the broader structural conditions that influence their strategies.

She has held visiting positions at several esteemed institutions, including the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne and the Center for the Study of Democratic Citizenship in Montreal.

Prior to her Ph.D., Dr. Mierke-Zatwarnicki completed a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of British Columbia and a Master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Toronto.
