Dr. Marcus Kölling

Marcus Kölling has been Managing Director of the WZB since May 2025. Together with WZB President Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln, he forms the institute's management team.

A doctor of economics, Marcus Kölling has many years of experience in academia, business, and university management. Since May 2021, he was Managing Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam, where he most recently headed the institute together with Tobias Friedrich and Ralf Herbrich. Prior to that, he served as Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer of the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. His academic career began at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where he earned his doctorate and worked as a lecturer and research assistant.
