In 2011, the WZB hosted a public lecture series on key aspects of social inequality. Outstanding international scholars will presented their latest research to shed light on an intensely debated topic.

Die Erwerbsquote von Frauen liegt in Deutschland weiterhin deutlich unter der von Männern. Jutta Allmendinger untersucht, welche Lebensumstände dazu führen, dass Frauen sich vom Arbeitsmarkt zurückziehen. Sie zeigt, dass neben Familienstand und Kindern der zuletzt ausgeübte Beruf wesentlich die Dauer der Nichterwerbstätigkeit beeinflusst.

Die 20- bis 30-jährigen Frauen von heute sind unabhängig, selbstbewusst und gut ausgebildet. Sie haben große Ziele, wollen Geld verdienen und Karriere machen; auf Kinder, Partnerschaft und Familie jedoch nicht verzichten. Jutta Allmendinger, Präsidentin des Wissenschaftszentrum Berlins, ist sich sicher: Diese Frauen sind auf dem Sprung.
