Beyond the state - the architecture of global politics
Climate change, migration, financial crises - global challenges can be solved less than ever by individual states. International institutions and agreements become more and more important. The architecture of global politics is the central topic in the WZB Mitteilungen June issue. In this research magazine, WZB scientists don't conceptualize a "world policy", but they take close looks on the political and societal actors, their strategies and their acceptance.
Legal experts Jakob Zollmann and Mattias Kumm examine the international arbitration - in a historical and in an actual perspective (seeing CETA and TTIP). Martin Binder and Monika Heupel explain why the UN Security Council suffers from a legitimacy deficit in the eyes of the UN members. Gisela Hirschmann evaluates the human rights protection in UN peace missions. The problems in coordinating a global environmental policy are analyzed by Udo E. Simonis. Texts by Christian Rauh and Justin Valasek are dealing with the European Union.
Furthermore, the issue presents articles on the political situation in Morocco, on sociology in Eastern and Western Germany and on the reluctance in social sciences seeing the complexity of big data.
The WZB-Mitteilungen are published quarterly and are aimed to transmit the WZB expertise to the public - entirely in German language, though. The research magazine can be obtained on a subscription basis. You find the June issue's articles here.
