Borders, Otherness and Public Law
More than ever before, questions of movement across borders, displacement and belonging, equality and inequality, membership and otherness have become pressing issues worldwide. Public law structures line-drawing, practices of inclusion and exclusion, borders and boundaries of many kinds raise persistent questions within contemporary domestic, transnational and international public law. During three days, on 126 panels and over 400 presentations this year’s ICON∙S Conference “Border, Otherness and Public Law” will explore these and related themes.
Among the plenary panelists are amongst others Koen Laenarts, Chief Justice of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Guido Raimondi, President of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, Francoise Tulkens, former Judge and Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights, Susanne Baer, Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany and Catharine A. MacKinnon, University of Michigan and Harvard University.
The conference, which is taking place on June 17-19 in Berlin, is organized by the WZB Center for Global Constitutionalism in cooperation with the International Society of Public Law (ICON∙S) and Humboldt University Berlin, with the NYU Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law and Justice and the Istituto di Ricerche sulla Pubblica Amministrazione (IRPA) as further partners .
