Milan Schröder

Milan Schröder is a visiting researcher at the Global Governance (GG) group. He is a PhD candidate within the Embracing Transformation (ET) programme at Leuphana University Lüneburg's Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD), where he examines discursive (re)constructions of global order in the United Nations General Debate.

Previously, he was research fellow in the TRIAS/Balancing Acts project from, bridging the Global Governance and Politics of Digitalization units, where he analysed the European Commission’s public communication and narratives using NLP methods to determine how geopolitical pressures shape the EU’s “third way” of digital policy.

He holds a M.A. in International Affairs from the Hertie School and a B.A. in Political Science and Communication Studies from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Before joining WZB, he worked with the Centre for International Security at the Hertie School and the Chair of Political Communication at Passau University.

His academic interests evolve around the role of narratives in international politics, especially geopolitical discourses, counter-narratives to the “Liberal International Order”, and how Data Science and Text-as-Data methods can boost our understanding of ideological competition in international politics.
