Funding for initiation and completion (flexible funds)
Twice a year, the WZB invites applications from doctoral and postdoctoral candidates for so-called flexible funding. In a competitive process a committee – composed of two doctoral candidates, two postdoctoral candidates, a department head and the president – rules on applications and the allocation of funding.
Cooperation with graduate schools and programs
The WZB cooperates with graduate schools in many ways and, together with the Freie Universität and the Hertie School of Governance, founded the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (BTS).
With Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln taking office as President, the WZB launched a new tradition: the Annual Interdisciplinary WZB Conferences are dedicated to combine insights from the different social sciences to address major challenges of our times.
Highly qualified female scholars on the path to professorships enable the WZB to participate in the Berlin inter-university mentoring program ProFiL (Professionalisierung für Frauen in Forschung und Lehre: Mentoring – Training – Networking).
The Berlin Meeting on the Political Economy of Development (MoPED) workshop offers an opportunity for scholars who focus on the political economy of development, broadly defined, to build community and foster collaboration. The workshop will consist of in-depth discussions of approximately 8 papers and/or research designs over two days.
