Summer Institute in Computational Social Science
As part of the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science (SICSS), the research group engages in international social science methods training and continuing education for advanced MA students, doctoral candidates and postdocs. SICSS-Berlin focuses on digital texts, including data collection through web scraping, data cleaning, as well as various quantitative text analysis methods and procedures. The teaching program features lectures, group tasks and participant-led group research projects. Guest speakers, who conduct computer-assisted social science research, give participants practical insight into the possible applications in various fields and the challenges of these methods. Participants have ample opportunity to discuss their ideas and research work with the organizers, peers and guest speakers. The group research projects are designed and carried out by the participants themselves, and enable and initiate further collaborations between disciplines and institutes. Committed to open and reproducible research, the organizers make all materials created by teachers and students for the Summer Institute available as open source.
