New study

The more support a government gives to Christian churches, the more likely its population is to express reservations about Muslim immigrants. This connections is proved by the political scientists Marc Helbling (WZB) and Richard Traunmüller (Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main). The protection of Christian holidays, the collection of church taxes, and the practice of denominational religious instruction in schools strengthen a Christian cultural identity and make it difficult to integrate other religious groups, the researchers write in an article for the new WZB-Mitteilungen issue.

Description

Recently, the new approaches to the research on philanthropy have deepened our understanding of giving behavior. Those new developments include the ascent of field experiments and growth of lab experiments on fundraising where charities are perceived as active parties. Others include the influence of behavioral economics on our understanding of how social interactions affect donations. The ways people donate has recently changed as well. For example, the role of online activities like donation-based crowdfunding is increasing.

New LawLog

A new blog at the WZB documents the research conducted at the Center for Global Constitutionalism and features short summaries of major articles and books by affiliated members and guests of the Center. The topics of the LawLog which was designed by the WZB’s Center for Global Constitutionalism range from citizenship to global constitutionalism, from human rights to judicial strategy, from liberalism to transnational networks. The LawLog also highlights topical public contributions made by members in newspapers, blogs and other media outlets.

Mercator-Fellowship
