Heike Solga has been elected as chairperson of the European Consortium for Sociological Research (ECSR). Solga will preside over a Board elected by leading European research institutes and university departments.

What are the cutting edge questions researchers at the WZB are working on? Which new insights has WZB research to offer and where is more work needed? Our WZB Talks series seeks to connect researchers across units at the WZB.

Abstract

School-to-work transitions (STWT) have been studied from a perspective that enables us to consider the individual and institutional factors involved in this transition. This is how the institutions like education and the labor market interact with what different individuals decide to do within these transitions. It is a perspective that allows considering the interaction between individuals and institutions (Allmendinger, 1989; Gangl, 2001; Shavit et al., 1998). Work constitutes a fundamental part of individuals´ life and is an important generator of individual and social welfare.

Description

This will be a one-day event, entirely virtual, focusing on R Markdown—a relatively new document type to analyse data and communicate results, in a reproducible and efficient manner (full description attached). By combining code, text, and resultsin a single document, R Markdown allows automation of otherwise manual—therefore tedious, costly to repeat, and error-prone—steps in writing research papers. Therefore, those interested in writing research-based papers, from essays to journal articles, are likely tobenefit from this course.
