The project runs for two years (2011 – 2013) and is funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation. It is based on the changes that occur in the context of a neoliberal societal orientation, in particular, and on changed statehood in civil society organizations. Hence, we are investigating whether civil society organizations are offering more services – in competition with other providers – and whether their function as service providers is fulfilled at the expense of their civic function.

The research focuses on the question as to how the integration of young people into the work of civil society organizations can be improved. Such organizations depend on their ability to enlist to the cooperation of young people to secure their future existence. At the same time civil society organizations provide a setting for young people that enables them to acquire knowledge and skills and hence improve their quality of life.

2007 und 2009 befragte das WZB in Zusammenarbeit mit Gruner+Jahr und dem Sozialforschungsinstitut infas 2000 junge Frauen und Männer zu ihren Lebensentwürfen. Diese unter dem Namen „Brigitte“-Studie

Besitzen unsere normativen Vorstellungen von dem, was gute Wissenschaft ausmacht, universelle Gültigkeit oder kommt es in der Zusammenarbeit von Wissenschaftlern aus unterschiedlichen Kulturkreisen zu Irritationen über die Ziele, Maßstäbe und Methoden wissenschaftlicher Forschung sowie über den adäquaten Umgang mit Forschungsergebnissen? Das Projekt versucht, durch standardisierte Befragungen von Wissenschaftlern, die in Kooperationen mit Kollegen und Institutionen insbesondere aus Südostasien erfahren sind, sowie durch Experteninterviews mit Förderorganisationen und institutionellen wissenschaftspolitischen Akteuren mögliche Spannungsfelder aufzudecken und zu typisieren. Außerdem soll untersucht werden, ob und ggf.

Auf Grundlage vorliegender oder ggf. noch quantitativ und qualitativ zu erhebender Daten untersuchte das Projekt „Studienberechtigte und Studienanfänger in Nordrhein-Westfalen: Entwicklungen und Herauforderungen 2000 – 2010“ die Frage, wie sich die in Nordrhein-Westfalen besonders deutliche Lücke zwischen dem Anteil von Studienberechtigten und dem Anteil von Studienanfängern begründet. Zu den wesentlichen Fragestellungen, denen dabei nachgegangen wurde, gehörten u.a.:

Summary
This project is a feasibility study on the analytical potential of comparing students with special educational needs (SEN) attending regular schools with those attending special schools as part of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS).
