A.SK Social Science Award 2023 Ceremony
The A.SK Social Science Award, one of the most prestigious distinctions in the social sciences, was donated by Shu Kai Chan in 2007 and is awarded every other year. The 2023 award recipient is Daron Acemoglu, Institute Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He receives the award for his vastly influential work on, among others, the decisive role of institutions in capitalist economies, on the forces of state and society, and on the uses and risks of automation. As his research moves across both political science and economics, Daron Acemoglu has become a leading expert on the determinants of economic growth.
The A.SK Award is complemented by two Bright Mind Awards for a younger generation of researchers: Filiz Garip, Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University, receives the award for reshaping our narratives of migration. Stefanie Stantcheva, Professor of Political Economy at Harvard University, is honored for her work on how people understand, reason, and learn about tax policies.
