Unemployed: Lobbyless and unengaged

The unemployed are mostly absent from public life. Although their situation is debated, hardly any conversation is conducted with the jobless themselves, and despite major protests in 2004, little has changed regarding their participation in political decision-making. In her new WZBrief Zivilengagement, Britta Baumgarten explores why jobless people are scarcely present in the public sphere and exercise almost no influence on political decision-making.
